In 1870s California, Chinese immigrant Peony (Clara Lee) flees an arranged marriage and signs a labor contract, only to discover she's been sold into prostitution as a "flower girl" for the ruthless Hong Kong Triad boss Yu Hing. There, she meets Tom Wong (Godfrey Gao), an American-born Chinese man who works on the Transcontinental Railroad, and they begin a romance that defies traditional roles, despite the odds against them. As their happiness grows, so does Yu Hing's determination to reclaim Peony, forcing the couple into a desperate struggle to protect their family amidst the volatile atmosphere of Los Angeles' Chinatown, which culminates in one of the largest mass lynchings in American history.
