Affirmations

Affirmations is a ten-minute short film exploring black gay sexuality as well as the inclusion of black gays in the black community. The film begins with Reginald T. Jackson recounting his first night with a lover and follows this story to Harlem's African American Freedom Day parade, where gay, black men express their desires for kinship and inclusion in the Black community. The film documents mainstream images of Black culture alongside those of queer African Americans, juxtaposing historical figures such as Martin Luther King Jr., Frederick Douglass, and Malcolm X with contemporary voices advocating for LGBTQ+ rights.
