Bette Midler stars as Mary Rose Foster, a self-destructive rock star struggling to cope with her career and personal pressures, in this 1979 musical drama film loosely based on Janis Joplin's life. The film follows Mary Rose as she navigates relationships with her manager Rudge Campbell (Alan Bates), her idolized country music star Billy Ray (Harry Dean Stanton), and a military escort Huston Dyer (Frederic Forrest).
