In 1857, Richard Burton and John Hanning Speke embark on a perilous journey to find the source of the Nile River, driven by the ambitions of Queen Victoria's British Empire. The expedition leads to a bitter rivalry between the two men, with each claiming to have discovered the fabled waterway. Against this epic backdrop, personal relationships are tested and ultimately prove fatal, as Speke's quest for discovery takes a devastating toll on his life.
