Around India with a Movie Camera

Award-winning filmmaker Sandhya Suri weaves together archive footage from 1899 to 1947 to create an emotionally resonant story about life across India, featuring early surviving films, travelogues, home movies, and newsreels from British, French, and Indian filmmakers. The film explores the people and places of over 70 years ago, drawing in figures like Sabu and Gandhi, as it asks us to engage with broader themes of a shared history and shifting perspectives leading up to Indian independence, set to a new score by composer Soumik Datta that fuses western and Indian music.
