Stone of Destiny

In 1950 Ian Hamilton (Charlie Cox), a passionate member of the Scottish nationalist organization, plans a symbolic act to bring national focus into the movement. With his friend Bill Craig (Billy Boyd), he plots a scheme to steal the Stone of Destiny from Westminster Abbey in London, where it has resided for centuries after being taken by King Edward I of England as a spoil of war. Hamilton enlists help from John MacCormick (Robert Carlyle) and Kay Matheson (Kate Mara), and they execute their daring plan on Christmas Eve, breaking into the abbey and stealing the stone. After a series of events, the stone is eventually returned to Scotland, sparking widespread nationalist celebrations, but not before the students face arrest and a promise that the stone will be returned to London in 1996.
