The Crime of Doctor Crespi

In this 1935 horror film, Erich von Stroheim stars as Dr. Andre Crespi, a mad scientist who invents a serum that puts his enemies into a catatonic state, allowing him to bury them alive. When his colleague's wife is married to the man he hates, Crespi gets revenge by using the serum on her husband, Dr. Stephen Ross (John Bohn), who awakens from the drug while being exhumed during an autopsy. The film is loosely based on Edgar Allan Poe's short story "The Premature Burial" and received negative reviews upon its release, with critic's panning Stroheim's performance as "unconvincing".
