During the closing stages of World War II, Kata (Ildikó Bánsági) and her "husband" János (Péter Andorai), a prominent figure in the Hungarian resistance movement, are forced to pose as married to evade detection by the Nazis. As they navigate their shared quarters and the threat of exposure looms, Kata and János engage in a clandestine affair, grappling with guilt and emotions amidst the war's intensity. In the aftermath of the war, Kata must prove her identity, relying on János, who has irreparably damaged their relationship.
