Firebird

At the height of the Cold War, a troubled soldier forms a forbidden love triangle with a daring fighter pilot and his female comrade amid the dangerous surroundings of a Soviet Air Force Base. Sergey (Tom Prior) is a young private in the Soviet army based in Estonia, who bonds with newcomer Lt. Matvejev (Oleg Zagorodnii), a fighter pilot, over their enthusiasm for photography and vodka. As they consummate their attraction, Roman encourages Sergey to study acting in Moscow instead of returning to his family's farm when he leaves the service, leading to a year-long separation that Sergey eventually ends.
