The Sweet Hereafter

In the small town of Sam Dent, British Columbia, a devastating school bus accident leaves 14 children dead, sending shockwaves through the community. A big-city lawyer, Mitchell Stephens, arrives to help the survivors' and victims' families prepare a class-action suit, but his efforts only seem to exacerbate the emotional paralysis that grips the townspeople. Meanwhile, one teenage survivor, Nicole Burnell, must confront the loss of innocence brought about by a different kind of trauma, as she navigates her own painful past amidst the collective grief.
