A research team in Antarctica is hunted by a shape-shifting alien that assumes the appearance of its victims. The team, led by helicopter pilot R. J. MacReady (Kurt Russell), must navigate paranoia and conflict as they learn that any one of them could be the Thing, an extraterrestrial life-form that assimilates and imitates other organisms. As tensions build, the group's trust is tested to the limit in a desperate bid for survival.
