The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio

Based on the true story, Julianne Moore stars as Evelyn Ryan, a Midwestern housewife who supports her large family by entering contests for ad slogans sponsored by consumer product companies, while dealing with abuse from her alcoholic husband, Kelly (Woody Harrelson). As she wins prizes that help alleviate some of their financial burdens, Kelly's behavior becomes increasingly volatile. Eventually, the family's situation is revealed to be on the brink of disaster, but Evelyn finds a way to save them through one final contest victory.
