Goodbye to Language

The film tells two similar versions of a couple having an affair, named "1 Nature" and "2 Metaphor", which focus on couples Josette and Gédéon, Ivitch and Marcus, along with a dog. The story begins with Josette being accosted by her husband's rival, who then fires at her. She wanders away as the other characters rush to the scene. Gédéon follows her and declares his devotion. The film then switches to "2 Metaphor", where Ivitch is also accosted by a man, Marcus, in a similar situation. In another version of the story, the scenes are played out with some differences: in "1 Nature," Josette and Gédéon have an affair, staying in a house together; in "2 Metaphor," Marcus and Ivitch have an affair in the same house but with different details. The film also features Roxy Miéville, Godard's dog, which appears prominently throughout the story.
