In a world where walking, talking robots are the ultimate best friends of children everywhere, an 11-year-old boy named Barney discovers that his new robot buddy doesn't quite work as the others do. After receiving a defective robot from a tech giant, Barney learns to teach it how to be a good friend and runs into trouble when the company tries to shut him down. With the help of his quirky grandmother and a secret plan, Barney manages to restore his beloved robot to its original code, giving it a chance to live on in all sorts of mischievous ways.
