The Possessed

In 19th-century Russia, Nikolaj Stavrogin (Lambert Wilson), a mysterious aristocrat, returns to his hometown after an extended absence, sparking intrigue and controversy among the town's residents. The governor's wife, Varvara Stavrogina (Isabelle Huppert as Maria Sjatov), and her stepson, Pyotr Verkhovensky (Jean-Philippe Écoffey as Peter Verchovenskij), a charismatic radical revolutionary, are drawn into Stavrogin's web of intrigue and manipulation. As tensions escalate, the characters become embroiled in a series of scandalous affairs, personal conflicts, and moral corruption, ultimately leading to violence, chaos, and tragedy for many involved.
