In a Savage Land

"In a Savage Land" follows anthropologists Phillip Spence (Martin Donovan) and Evelyn Spence (Maya Stange), who embark on a research expedition to an island in Papua New Guinea just prior to World War II. As they immerse themselves in the local culture, their marriage is put to the test by cultural clashes, personal ambitions, and the increasing threat of war. Rufus Sewell plays Mick Carpenter, a free-diver who becomes Evelyn's ally and love interest as she navigates the challenges of her research and her relationships with the native population. The film explores themes of cultural imperialism, gender roles, and the impact of war on personal lives, set against the stunning backdrop of Papua New Guinea.
