In 1965, Boston teenager Michael Dunn arrives at St. Basil's, a strict all-boys Catholic school in Brooklyn, where he befriends misfits like Caesar, an overweight student who excels academically. Michael also befriends Danni, a teenaged girl who runs the soda fountain across from the school and cares for her mentally infirm father. As Michael navigates his new life at St. Basil's, he clashes with the repressive faculty, including Brother Thadeus, but finds unexpected friendships and romance with Danni.
