Inside a darkened house looms a column of TVs littered with VHS tapes, a pagan shrine to forgotten analog gods. The screens crackle and pop endlessly with monochrome vistas of static white noise permeating the brain and fogging concentration. But you must fight the urge to relax: this is no mere movie night. Those obsolete spools contain more than just magnetic tape. The film features four found footage segments linked together by a fifth frame narrative, each segment showcasing a different horror theme. In "Tape 49," private investigators Larry and Ayesha investigate the disappearance of college student Kyle, only to find themselves entangled in a world of supernatural terror. Ayesha discovers that the laptop is still recording as she watches the footage, neglecting to notice a strange figure peering at her from the shadows. The segment transitions into "Phase I Clinical Trials," where a man named Herman receives a cybernetic ocular implant and begins to experience terrifying glitches. As Herman delves deeper into his visions, he becomes convinced that ghosts are haunting him, but Clarissa, the woman who claims to have cochlear implants, warns him that removing her implant could only make things worse. The segment builds towards a shocking climax as Herman's world descends into chaos. The film also includes "Tape 49" — First interlude and "A Ride in the Park," where a man named Mike Sullivan becomes embroiled in a zombie outbreak while on a bike ride through the woods. Throughout its various segments, V/H/S/2 delivers a visceral and unsettling experience that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
