The 2011 American period romantic drama film "Water for Elephants" is based on Sara Gruen's novel and follows Jacob Jankowski (Robert Pattinson), a veterinary student who joins a circus as an animal caretaker and becomes infatuated with angelic performer Marlena Rosenbluth (Reese Witherspoon). The film explores the chemistry between Jacob and Marlena, as well as August Rosenbluth's (Christoph Waltz) cruel treatment of his wife and the animals.
