The Winter War

"The Winter War" is a gritty and intense portrayal of one of World War II's most overlooked conflicts, set against the unforgiving backdrop of Finland's 1939-1940 winter campaign. Based on a novel by Antti Tuuri, this film tells the story of Martti and Paavo Hakala, two farmer brothers from Kauhava who join up with other reservists to fight on the Karelian Isthmus. From the Battle of Taipale to the eventual Moscow Peace Treaty, the Finns face unimaginable hardships as they battle against the Soviet Red Army in a struggle that would ultimately claim countless lives.
