The President's Lady

The President's Lady is a 1953 biopic about president Andrew Jackson and his marriage to Rachel Donelson Robards. The film tells the story of how they met, fell in love, and overcame obstacles, including scandal and hardship. Charlton Heston plays Andrew Jackson, who becomes infatuated with the lovely Rachel (Susan Hayward), a married woman seeking freedom from her husband's abuse. The couple faces danger from Lewis Robards, Rachel's jealous husband, as well as marauding Indians, but ultimately find happiness together. As they build their life at "The Hermitage," Andrew is away fighting for his country and later becomes president, promising to protect Rachel's reputation and honor.
