Gary Wallace (Anthony Michael Hall) and Wyatt Donnelly (Ilan Mitchell-Smith), two unpopular teenagers from Shermer High School, create a virtual woman named Lisa using Wyatt's computer after being humiliated by their peers. A power surge brings Lisa to life, giving her reality-altering powers and a gorgeous appearance. As the boys' friend, Chet (Bill Paxton), tries to extort money from them, Lisa uses her powers to help them outsmart him and boost their confidence levels. With Lisa's help, Gary and Wyatt take refuge in a party they create, where they must confront the consequences of their desires and learn to have fun despite their embarrassment.
