In Toronto, young Briton Wallace works a dead-end job and lives with his sister and nephew, a medical school dropout who's convinced to attend his best friend's party, where he meets Chantry, an animator living with her longtime boyfriend Ben. They form an instant connection, discussing topics like the Fool's Gold sandwich, deciding to become friends, but Wallace is soon drawn into their complicated relationships, particularly Ben's struggles and Chantry's unrequited feelings.
