When teen-socialite Kelly Van Ryan accuses guidance counselor Sam Lombardo of rape, he's suspended by the school, rejected by the town, and fighting to get his life back. One cop, Sergeant Ray Duquette (Kevin Bacon), suspects conspiracy, but nothing is what it seems. As a series of revelations unfolds, Suzie Toller (Neve Campbell) reveals she and Kelly concocted false allegations to get revenge on Sam. In spite of their win, Sam loses his home and job, but against the wishes of the district attorney, Sergeant Duquette continues investigating Sam, who is ultimately revealed as an accomplice in the scam with Suzie and Kelly.
