Diary of a Sergeant

Harold Russell (uncredited) stars as himself in this 1945 American short film about his medical rehabilitation at Walter Reed Army Medical Center after losing his hands in a military training accident. The documentary follows Russell's transformation from despair to hope as he learns to wear and operate prosthetic hooks, becoming competent to perform tasks he once thought impossible. After his discharge, Russell is welcomed by Boston College president William J. Murphy, S.J.
