Dr. Peter Carey (James Coburn), a new pathologist at a Boston hospital, uncovers a web of corruption when his colleague J.D. Randall is arrested for performing an illegal abortion. As Carey investigates, he suspects the hospital's nurse Angela Holder of stealing the hospital's morphine to sell to Roger Hudson, her boyfriend who becomes increasingly violent.
