The Emperor's New Clothes

In 1821, Napoleon Bonaparte, exiled on Saint Helena, devises a plan to escape and reclaim his throne by switching places with lowly French deckhand Eugene Lenormand. The plan goes awry as Lenormand enjoys himself too much in the relative luxury of Napoleon's exile, refusing to reveal the switch. As Napoleon adjusts to life as a commoner, he befriends Nicole "Pumpkin" Truchaut, whose widow, Dr. Lambert, had designs on her. The film follows Napoleon's failed attempt to regain his throne and his eventual realization that happiness lies in living a simple life with Pumpkin.
