Judy Garland stars as Jenny Bowman, a successful singer who visits her son Matt (Gregory Phillips) at his boarding school in Canterbury while her husband David Donne (Dirk Bogarde), a prominent surgeon and Matt's father, is away in Rome. The three spend time together, leading to a complicated situation when David returns and reveals the truth about their relationship.
