Goddard Bolt (Mel Brooks), a callous CEO of Bolt Enterprises, makes a bet with his rival Vance Crasswell that he can survive on the streets of Los Angeles as homeless for 30 days. He must wear an electronic anklet and remain anonymous to avoid forfeiting the bet. During his stay, Bolt befriends skid-row inhabitants Sailor (Stuart Pankin) and Fumes (Michael Ensign), and meets Molly (Lesley Ann Warren), a former Broadway dancer who becomes his love interest.
