Goldie Hawn plays Sunny Ann Davis, a seemingly ditzy blonde who works as a cocktail waitress in Washington, D.C., whose life takes an unexpected turn when she prevents the assassination of a visiting Arab emir. She becomes a national heroine and is thrust into public adoration, receiving mail from celebrities and marriage proposals, before being recruited by the State Department to work with diplomat Michael Ransome (Chris Sarandon) as part of a diplomatic career. Sunny navigates her new job while facing a scandal over her involvement in the emir's country, ultimately leading to a Congressional inquiry into the truth behind her role in the diplomatic coup.
