Southwest of Salem: The Story of the San Antonio Four

In 1994, four women were accused, tried, and convicted of the heinous sexual assault of two young girls in San Antonio, Texas. The four openly gay women, including Elizabeth Ramirez (the supposed "ringleader"), Cassandra Rivera, Kristie Mayhugh, and Anna Vasquez, maintained their innocence, insisting that the accusations were entirely fabricated due to homophobic prejudice and a late-’90s mania about covens, cults, and child abuse. The film showcases their fight for innocence and persistence throughout their nearly 15 years in prison, culminating in a pivotal court hearing where they challenged their convictions.
