Charlotte Castang is a 13-year-old girl from a working-class background who lives with her crass brother and widowed father. She dreams of a better life after meeting Clara Bauman, a pianist prodigy, at school. Charlotte becomes obsessed with Clara and starts to secretly meet her, eventually being recruited as Clara's manager for her upcoming concert.
