The Day the Earth Froze

Based on Finnish mythology, "The Day the Earth Froze" (1959) tells the story of Lemminkäinen's adventures in a dark and dismal land ruled by the wicked witch Louhi. With the help of his friend Ilmarinen, Lemminkäinen battles Louhi to recover a magical device called Sampo, which can create gold, grain, and salt. As Lemminkäinen and Annikki (his love interest) succeed in retrieving the Sampo, they must face the consequences of its power and ultimately defeat Louhi to save their world from eternal darkness.
