In 1950s Moscow, a group of young Muscovite Komsomol students led by Katya intercept illegal stilyagi gatherings in Gorky Park, forcing them to flee and confront the harsh reality of Soviet repression. A paragon athletic student and member of the Komsomol, Mels, is ordered to chase one of the escapists, but instead falls for Polly, a free-spirited jazz fan who joins the rebellious crew. As Mels risks losing his party membership by associating with her, he undergoes a transformation to join the stilyagi subculture, adopting bold fashion and musical tastes. Ultimately, Mels finds love and acceptance as a true member of the group, led by Polly and their charismatic leader Fred.
