All Quiet on the Western Front

The film follows a group of idealistic young men who join the German Army during World War I and are assigned to the Western Front. The new soldiers, led by Paul Bäumer (Lew Ayres), enthusiastically enlist in the army but their romantic delusions are shattered during rigorous training under Sergeant Himmelstoss. As they face harsh realities of combat, including artillery attacks and heavy losses on both sides, Paul becomes increasingly distraught, attempting first aid for a dying French soldier and later visiting his family on furlough, where he expresses disillusionment with the war.
