"Return to Gandhi Road" is a powerful and poignant documentary that weaves together two seemingly disparate threads – the 1950s Cultural Revolution in Tibet and the arrival of Western seekers in India's Darjeeling hills in the late 1960s. At its center is the extraordinary story of Kangyur Rinpoche, a Tibetan Master who risked life and limb to rescue Buddhist texts from potential extinction and build a monastery at 54 Gandhi Road. Through the eyes of Kim Hegan, one of the first Westerners to arrive in Darjeeling, this film tells both Rinpoche's remarkable journey and Hegan's own path towards healing and rediscovery.
