The Roof

"The Roof" (1956) is a drama film that follows Natale and Luisa Pilon, a young couple struggling to build a life together in post-war Rome. As they face eviction from their family's apartment due to provincial Italian law, Natale, an apprentice bricklayer, conscripts his co-workers to help him build a one-room dwelling on unused railway land overnight. With the police arriving just as dawn breaks, Natale and Luisa must rely on a humane policeman to turn a blind eye to their unauthorized abode, giving them time to secure their future despite financial struggles and impending imprisonment.
