Tabu: A Story of the South Seas

On the South Pacific island of Bora Bora, a young couple's love is threatened when the tribal chief declares the girl a sacred virgin. Aged emissary Hitu arrives by Western sailing ship to the island of Bora Bora, bearing a message from the chief of Fanuma to the chief of Bora Bora. The film follows Reri (Anne Chevalier), a young girl selected as the next sacred virgin, and her lover Matahi (Matahi) as they escape the island by outrigger canoe and try to build a new life in a French colony. However, their happiness is short-lived as they face exploitation and danger from both Western civilization and the local authorities, ultimately leading to Reri's tragic fate.
