During the Ming Dynasty, a secret military intelligence organization called nine gates (九门) was established by Zhu Xi's ancestors to monitor government officials and control the population in the capital. Characterized as the strongest assassin organization in the capital, nine gates was ordered to investigate a minister of Military Affairs' rebellion. The investigation uncovered intricate connections involving not only internal forces but also deeper conspiracies.
