Port of Shadows

On a foggy night, Jean (Jean Gabin), an army deserter, arrives in the port city Le Havre, seeking a new start. There, he meets 17-year-old Nelly (Michèle Morgan), who has run away from her godfather Zabel, with whom she lives. As they spend time together, they are interrupted by various characters, including gangster Lucien and Jean's own desire to leave his troubled past behind. Fate ultimately proves cruel, as Lucien exacts a deadly revenge on Jean, leading to Nelly's heartbreaking loss.
