In 1988, high school sophomores Abby Rivers and Gretchen Lang are longtime best friends whose bond is put to the test when Gretchen begins to act strangely after a disastrous skinny-dipping trip. As their friendship is strained by Gretchen's increasingly erratic behavior, including self-harm and sinister displays of manipulation, Abby must turn to an unlikely ally in Christian, a Christian bodybuilder who confirms her worst fears: Gretchen is possessed by a demon. Determined to save her friend, Abby embarks on a quest to perform an exorcism, facing unimaginable horrors along the way - but can their friendship be powerful enough to beat the devil?
