Dolly Parton stars as Leanna Taylor, a country singer struggling to escape her controlling manager/boyfriend Hank (John Terry), and confronts her troubled past through flashbacks, including memories of an abusive father. With the help of her guitarist Bobby (Billy Dean), Leanna finally faces her demons and begins to move forward, ultimately finding freedom and redemption through music. The film ends with Leanna singing "Blue Valley Songbird" in concert.
