The Mountain Road

Major Baldwin (James Stewart) is ordered to delay the Japanese advance into eastern China by blowing up bridges, roads, and airfields as part of his team of demolition engineers. They soon come across a Nationalist Chinese Army unit guarding a vital bridge over a mountain pass, where they meet Colonel Kwan (Frank Silvera) who asks for their help in destroying a munitions dump located at some distance away. Meanwhile, Baldwin is tasked with transporting Madame Sue-Mei Hung (Lisa Lu), the widow of a Chinese colonel, to the nearest major town. As they navigate through treacherous terrain and face local bandits, Baldwin grapples with his mission and personal feelings for Sue-Mei.
