A young man, Mertkan (Bartu Küçükçağlayan), living in Istanbul with his unfulfilling life and oppressive parents, starts to become self-confident after meeting Gül (Esme Madra), a Kurdish girl from eastern Turkey, but faces opposition from his domineering father. The film tells a moral tale of the timeless shadow of fathers over sons and draws on the example of today's Turkish youth. It premiered at the 67th Venice International Film Festival and won several awards, including the Lion of the Future for best debut film.
