Call Jane

In 1968 Chicago, Joy Griffin, played by Elizabeth Banks, is pregnant with a second child long after having a daughter, Charlotte, who is now a teenager and just experienced menstruation. Her pregnancy causes her to have congestive heart failure, which will kill her unless she has her child before then, or has an abortion. Desperate, Joy turns to the Jane Collective, a Chicago underground women's network that provides safer abortions. With the help of Virginia, played by Sigourney Weaver, and later Gwen, Joy successfully receives an abortion from a talented but misogynistic male gynecologist, Dean. As Joy becomes part of the collective, she discovers the true extent of their work and the challenges they face, ultimately leading to the legalization of abortion nationwide.
