In western Myanmar, a country torn by conflict, Hla, a Buddhist midwife, operates a makeshift maternity clinic that serves as a lifeline for the Rohingya Muslim minority community, who are persecuted and denied basic rights. Her apprentice, Nyo Nyo, a Muslim woman from a long-standing family in the area, is determined to become a steady healthcare provider despite facing prejudice and violence. As Hla risks her own safety daily by helping Muslim patients, she challenges the local Buddhist population's chagrin, while her husband harbors racist views about maintaining ethnic purity. Filmed over five years, the documentary follows their struggle for self-determination in the face of militaristic oppression.
