Carol of the Bells

"Carol of the Bells" (2022) tells the story of three families of different nationalities—Ukrainians, Poles, and Jews—who share a large house in the city of Stanislaviv during World War II. The Soviet occupation and Nazi invasion shatter their peaceful existence, but Sofia's shelter becomes a haven where children from the three families find refuge through music, particularly the enchanting melody of the Ukrainian "Shchedryk." As they wait for liberation, the girls endure hardships, including forced confinement and brutal re-education, yet preserve their national identity. The film features festive songs characteristic of each nationality and highlights the unique traditions of Christmas celebration among the Poles and Ukrainians.
