Mavis Dracula (Selena Gomez) and her human husband Johnny Loughran have a young son named Dennis, whose lack of vampire abilities worries both Mavis and her grandfather Dracula (Adam Sandler). When the couple travel to Johnny's hometown in California, Drac calls his friends to help him make Dennis a vampire, much to Mavis's dismay. The film follows their attempts to turn Dennis into a vampire, while also exploring the complexities of Mavis wanting to give her son a "normal" childhood and Dracula's desire for his grandson to follow in his vampire lineage.
