When You Finish Saving the World follows Evelyn (Julianne Moore), a shelter operator for domestic abuse survivors, and her son Ziggy (Finn Wolfhard), an unassuming teenager who performs original folk-rock songs online, as they navigate their contentious relationship while trying to connect with others.
