Three Times

In three separate segments set respectively in 1966, 1911, and 2005, three love stories unfold between three sets of characters, under three different periods of Taiwanese history and governance. A young soldier's chance encounter with a pool-hall hostess sparks a romance that must navigate the constraints of war and social expectations. In another era, a courtesan in a brothel yearns for freedom from her life, only to be denied by a customer who is also a political activist. Meanwhile, a singer torn between two loves finds herself drawn to a photographer with whom she has an illicit affair, leading to a heart-wrenching confrontation with her devoted girlfriend.
